Pick of the Week

25 Feb

Like buttah is how I would describe Nars Sheer Glow foundation. It has a silky-smooth feel, not too heavy and gives my skin a nice natural finish. I don’t like a heavy feeling foundation but still like the look of a heavier coverage. I feel this gives me the best of both worlds. They have a wide variety of colours to match any skin tone. Even though most people can’t tell, I have yellow undertones in my skin and have difficulties finding foundation. I didn’t have any problems matching my skin and use Punjab in this line.

I apply it with a foundation brush but if you don’t have one, your fingers will work just as good, if not better (the heat from your hands will actually help blend it into your skin). It is buildable coverage if you did want or need more, but it doesn’t give much more than a medium coverage. You may not like this foundations if you are on the oily side or like really heavy coverage. I think this foundation helps hydrate my skin in the winter months and I will like it through the summer for its light, airy feel. The website (could be the Canadian prices) says it is $55 but I bought it at Sephora for $42. I can’t say I enjoy the price tag but I really don’t need much of the product so it does go along way.

Hope you like it as much as I do!

Pick of the Week

I’ve never really been one for cream blushes but a recent trip to Sephora has made me a believer. I couldn’t resist the half off price tag but also the beautiful colour from Philosophy. Although they are primarily known for their skin care and bath and body products, I’m intrigued to try out some more of their makeup too. The blush is called  Supernatural lit from within cream blush. I went with the shade warm all over and that is exactly what it did to my cheeks with a beautiful peachy/gold shade. It gives my skin just the right amount of radiance and healthy colour. It blends really nice and seems to last all day.  I’m hoping this will give my skin a pick me up after this long and dreary winter.  Worth checking out if you want a more natural looking blush and  if you want to add something to your Spring look.

J’Adore

If I was to consider Sephora  mecca, than I think I have found my version of heaven. It is the Dior Institut (Spa) which has locations in various spots in the world including Athens, Warsaw, Marrakesh, Moscow, Mexico City, Saint Martin, Guadalajara and of course Paris. The instituts (spas) look absolutely gorgeous but I wouldn’t expect anything less from Dior.

If I make it to heaven and this is where I end up, I would love to pick the Paris locations to be closer to the house of Dior and get the full Parisian/Dior experience. I cannot say too much on these spas due to the obvious fact that I have yet to experience one but the pictures are enough for me.  I love everything about Dior (well, except maybe the price tag in my current financial situation) and the fact that they have spas makes me love them even more.

I have to say that lately I have a burning desire or how you say, “je ne sais quoi”, to go to Paris. Yesterday I spent some time with a good friend who also wants to go and everywhere we went there were pictures or knick knacks of the Eiffel Tower which was obviously just a huge sign for us to hop on a plane and go.  My list of things that I want to accomplish just keeps getting longer and longer.

A Little Pick Me-Up . . .

1 Dec

Have you ever went shopping, bought a “new” amazing colour of lipstick/lipgloss/eyeshadow to only realize you have something very similar or basically the same? Since I am a bit of a product (pardon my french) whore this tends to happen quite a bit. This actually happened to me on a recent trip to Sephora. I was looking at lipsticks and found the most perfect fall/winter shade. It is Make Up Forever Rouge Intense in #13. I have been wanting a deeper shade for my lips and since I already have a red and am not quite sure how well I can do the dark burgundy lips I thought this was the perfect balance. It is almost a ruby-red with some shimmer but has a violet hue to it. On my way home I was already thinking about when and with what outfit I wanted to wear this shade but then started thinking that I already had a shade like this? Oh the agony . . . I could have bought something else.  When I got home and looked through my lipsticks, I discovered a shade from an old Lancome gift that is quite similar. I don’t even know if they make the shade anymore – it is a colour design lipstick called curtain call.

*Top is Lancome Curtain Call and bottom is Make Up Forever #13 . . . see more shimmer to it*

I tried justifying the purchase because the Make Up Forever lipstick has more of a violet undertone, whereas the Lancome is a true raspberry shade.  Since I found the Lancome lipstick I also decided to look through some of my eyeshadows and rediscovered some fabulous colours that I have not worn in a while and am anxious to try some different looks. Just like clothes, we can all get into a makeup rut and if a new lipstick can help get me out of it, then out with the old and in with the new!

Tis the Season!

23 Nov

It’s that time of year that everyone loves, well maybe not everybody, but most people love the thought of Christmas. The sights and, oh yes, the sounds of the holiday season are everywhere around us. I think I’m somewhere in between love the holiday to make those Christmas carols stop already! In the famous Christmas song they sing “tiny tots with their eyes all aglow” well I know what gets my eyes all aglow this time of year –  cosmetic holiday sets! Maybe it is the most wonderful time of the year. From perfume sets, make-up, skin care, hair care and body treats you will find a set for anybody in your life, or a gift for yourself (why not?).  The great thing about these sets is that they are usually at a good price point. The amount of product you get is unbelievable for the price. Sephora is probably the best place to check because of the array of brands they carry with exclusive offers or sets and major department stores carry an abundance of perfume sets.

A few great blockbuster sets worth mentioning . . .

Smashbox Wish for the Perfect Pallette for $59. It is worth over $260 and a portion of proceeds benefits the Children’s Miracle Network.

The kit Includes:
49 eye shadows
10 cream eye liners
6 brow powders
1 brow wax
8 lip glosses
2 blush
1 bronzer
1 highlighter
4 mini brushes (eye shadow, eye liner, angled brow and lip)

Bare Escentuals bareMinerals Shimmer and Shine Collection for $54. This is valued at $142 and exclusive to Sephora.

The set includes:

4  Eyecolors in Shimmer (frosted cappuccino), Flicker (burnished violet), High Shine Gold Medal (pale gold), and High Shine Vapor (graphite)

Clear Radiance All-Over Face Color (sheer translucent glow)
Pink Petal Blush (bright poppy pink)
100% Natural Lipgloss in With a Twist (tulip pink)
100% Natural Lipgloss in Sprinkles (diamond shimmer)
Full Tapered Blush & Eye Brush
Booklet featuring instructions for Shimmer and Shine looks

Lorac Box Office Sensation for $56. This is also exclusive to Sephora which is well worth over $56.

This set contains:
36  Eyeshadows
9  Lip Glosses
3  Blushes
Duo Bronzer

*Most of these Blockbuster sets do sell out quickly for obvious reasons so I would try to get your hands on one as soon as possible. It is like shopping for Tickle me Elmo for make-up junkies. I know what is on my list this year*
