Pick of the Week

25 Feb

Like buttah is how I would describe Nars Sheer Glow foundation. It has a silky-smooth feel, not too heavy and gives my skin a nice natural finish. I don’t like a heavy feeling foundation but still like the look of a heavier coverage. I feel this gives me the best of both worlds. They have a wide variety of colours to match any skin tone. Even though most people can’t tell, I have yellow undertones in my skin and have difficulties finding foundation. I didn’t have any problems matching my skin and use Punjab in this line.

I apply it with a foundation brush but if you don’t have one, your fingers will work just as good, if not better (the heat from your hands will actually help blend it into your skin). It is buildable coverage if you did want or need more, but it doesn’t give much more than a medium coverage. You may not like this foundations if you are on the oily side or like really heavy coverage. I think this foundation helps hydrate my skin in the winter months and I will like it through the summer for its light, airy feel. The website (could be the Canadian prices) says it is $55 but I bought it at Sephora for $42. I can’t say I enjoy the price tag but I really don’t need much of the product so it does go along way.

Hope you like it as much as I do!

Concert Fever

22 Feb

One of my favourite things to do is check out live music. Whether it be at a local bar or a stadium, I love a good performance – even bad ones (if I’ve been drinking).  If anyone lives in the Niagara/Buffalo area, on either sides of the border, the Town Ballroom in Buffalo, NY is a great venue for concerts.  If you haven’t been there it is very intimate and has a cool vibe. Generally the bands are not as well-known as a lot of mainstream acts but worth checking out.  We went to see Arkells this past Saturday with Hollerado  and Wildlife opening for them. If you also don’t know Arkells music you should listen up. They have a great sound and are even better live. They were so much fun and energetic on stage, and nice enough to sign merchandise and take pictures with fans afterwards.

Us and the Arkells

Venues like this are really great because the bands are more accessible to the fans and the environment is so much more chill. Say what you will about Buffalo, but I feel pretty fortunate that I live close enough to a city that has more to offer than most people think.

Pick of the Week

17 Feb

As much as I love makeup, I have to admit I’m not one for lipliner. If I am wearing a red, fuchsia or burgundy I will take that extra step and use a lipliner. Since I don’t use it often, it is one of those products I don’t like to spend too much money on. If you feel the same way, I highly recommend Annabelle lipliners.

They come in a wide array of colours and 3 different formulas all usually under $5. Lipliners are great for making lipstick last longer, prevents colour from bleeding and will help define your lips. Check them out!

*I will be posting a look with one of the lipliners next week*

Size Matters

13 Feb

For hundreds of years, women (and some men) have been asking themselves “does size really matter?” For me, it does. When choosing a mascara – oh wait, you didn’t think I was talking about, did you??? Any how, I love a big – ahemMASCARA brush. The bigger the better. I tend to gravitate towards a fuller brush because I feel it gives my lashes more volume and that is why I have always (and still do) love Diorshow. I’m always trying new mascaras and don’t usually like the ones with a smaller brush. I recently found an affordable mascara with a fuller brush that I wanted to share with you:  Rimmel Scandaleyes Mascara. It claims that the new MaxDensity brush will cover your lashes from corner to corner giving volume that will make false lashes a thing of the past. I think the oversize brush is one of the best I have tried in a superstore-like retail store.  Obviously I don’t think it has given me lashes that look fake, but if you think size matters as much as I do it is worth a try, especially at the price point.

Back at It

8 Feb

Although I haven’t been on top of things with blogging doesn’t mean I haven’t been trying out new and fun products. I have tried out about a dozen new mascaras, foundation, lipsticks, lipglosses, a lip plumper, face wash, body wash, exfoliants, eye cream and finally succumbed to laser hair removal.

I’ve made some changes in my life and finally decided to go back to school. It is an adjustment but I’m managing and am so happy on the decision I have made. I hope everyone is still interested in reading my blog and my somewhat boring life. I cannot believe it is already February. I hope everyone is enjoying their 2012 thus far!
